Quest Desk Jockey

My contribution to the Shovel Jam 2025 hosted on Itch.io. I acted as principle game designer, audio designer and quality assurance lead. The player takes on the role of the customer service representative at an adventuring guild, preparing plucky heroes for their epic quests! In order to make your daily quota, your clients must survive their journey, so study dangers ahead and buy the right items for the job. Made in Godot in a single week.

Make it stand out.

The theme of the Jam was “Just Get Started!” We took it very literally, with the idea that players would be helping other people begin their own adventures!

One of the main challenges we faced in designing the prototype was the balance between the number of items provided to the player versus the difficulty of the quest. If we gave too much, the gameplay loop became too easy and monotonous. If it was too little, the game was over almost immediately. As it stands, most players can get through an entire week before game over.

A cut feature we are considering if we expand upon this project is the inclusion of a Resident Evil-esque inventory management puzzle, where the player would also have to make the items they are giving to the hero fit in their bags as well, to add an extra layer of complexity.
